England v Sri Lanka,  first test,  Lord's

A century by Joe Root lead England to recovery on day one of the first test at Lords.

After being put in to bat by Angelo Mathews England went from to 22-2 to 120-4 before a confident Moen Ali (48) and the dependable Ian Bell (56) started the England fight back. Root 102 not out and Matt Prior 76 not out continued where Ali and Bell had left off and helped England finish with 344-5 at stumps.
